One Piece: Pirate Warriors – At Almost 1 Million Copies

The guys over at Namco Bandai Games Japan recently released some of the latest financial numbers and on top is the great Captain Luffy as part of One Piece: Pirate Warriors! In terms of anime games, anyways.

The real number one and two on Namco Bandai’s list are Dark Souls, which shipped 1.19 million units and Ace Combat Assault Horizon which followed with 1.07 million unit. However, both of those games shipped figures include the North American and European numbers.

For One Piece: Pirate Warriors, almost 1 million copies (940,000 to be exact) have been shipped since the March 1st release in Japan alone! That number can only going to get larger as the game will be sailing over to Europe in November of this year. North America will be getting a digital release so we’re not sure if Namco Bandai will be able to include it in the “shipped” numbers.

One Piece PS3, One Piece: Pirate Warriors (or One Piece: Kaizoku Musou in Japanese), is the first One Piece game on the Sony PlayStation 3. It covers One Piece Part 1 as well as some of the story contents of the One Piece timeskip. The game was developed by Omega Force and published by Namco Bandai Games and Tecmo Koei in Japan on March 1, 2012. The game is expected to be released on the PlayStation Network through digital download in North America and Europe sometime later this year.

    Oh finally,something else besides Naruto (Funny enough,I posted a comment in the “news” about the Naruto cosplayer calling this site out for not reporting this).

    I’m glad One Piece is doing so great.Nearly one million in Japan alone after 2 months,that’s good for an anime game.
    I hope Americans are planning to still buy even it’s a digital only release.NB have digital only here because they aren’t sure about how people would buy a One Piece game,even though the amount of OP fans increased since they last release a game here.
    Oh & Naruto fans,please don’t start bitching over the sales & start another opinion war.That’s probably why they stop reporting a lot of One Piece news.

    LOL Pokemon sells about 20 million copies every year dude, hell Pokemon Black and White sold a million copies on its first day. A million copies sold for an anime game is nowhere near impressive, the reason why it’s impressive for this game is because nobody thought that it would sell this much. I’m really glad that more people are jumping on the boat as One Piece fans(I jumped on the boat last year), but all I’m saying is that selling a million copies isn’t that impressive.

     Though I’m not a One Piece fan i was thinking of getting this game. But wasn’t there a post on this site that said that Namco Bandai of US and EU were merging? Wouldnt that mean we get a physical copy as well here in the US?

    Not really, the only pokemon game which sold 20mill copies was i believe Red and Blue but that was world wide sells.

    You do know that it take Naruto a year to sell those million copies you mentioned and it’s overall not just Japan, OP on the other hand sold almost a million copy in a month in only Japan.

    I’m not that knowledgeable about DBZ games so no comment although i keep hearing that the sells are falling. 
    Is that true?

    Dragon Ball Z Raging Blast 2 has sold roughly 500,000 worldwide at this time. Naruto ultimate ninja storm 2 has sold about 1 million copies. One piece has sold 1 million exclusively in japan.

    @D Vance Pokemon games make a lot more money than you would believe, just go on VGchartz and you will see for yourself. Also, I would like to point out that Pokemon Black and White sold 2.6 million units on its first day in Japan and 1.08 million on its first day in America. It has been confirmed that it broke the record as the fastest selling Pokemon game of all time. In order to be a successful anime, you have to be successful worldwide and not just in Japan which is why you only hear about One Piece in Japan and Malaysia. The U.S. and Europe won’t contribute much to the sales, I can already guarantee that(even though I’ll be buying a copy of this game).

    That is because even though I hate to say it, but Japan is literally full of almost nothing but One Piece fanboys which is why it is loved by all ages in Japan. However, Naruto is loved worldwide and until One Piece becomes loved worldwide it will never be able to compete with Naruto since it’s a small island. One Piece: Pirate Warriors will most likely end up just like Bleach: Soul Ressurection, a couple of months later and people will forget about it.

    Yes DBZ game sales are decreasing, same with Naruto. The reason is because people are getting tired of these 2 anime and want to see something new, hence the reason why One Piece now has a spark of popularity. A couple of years ago nobody gave 2 shits about One Piece and it has been around for quite a while. Look at when the Budokai Tenkaichi series and Naruto Ultimate Ninja series was out, One Piece had quite a few games as well and all of them sold poorly. One Piece right now is having an opposite effect than DBZ and Naruto in terms of popularity.

    I’m very proud to see One Piece’s success, but I’m just speaking in defense of DBZ and Naruto as I’m a DBZ, Naruto, and One Piece fan. I don’t choose sides, I just call it as I see it. And if this reply made anybody mad, I’m just speaking the truth so don’t kill the messenger.

    Femi is saying that the US and EU Namco Bandai merging may not be a good thing. Europe may now get the same crappy deals from anime games that the U.S. gets. Though, it has been getting better lately so I doubt it. At least we are getting more anime games besides Naruto and DBZ nowadays

    Budokai 3 came out in 2004 (8 years ago) and has sold just under 2 million. Tenkaichi 3 came out in 2007 (5 years ago) and has sold less than that. 

    One piece sold 1 million in two months. You said that’s not impressive. How am I wrong for saying it is?

    1. only released in the asian room ( tll nov)
    2. those 1.000.000 were accomplished in a 2 months time span , pokemon may be topping this but as much as i love DB BT3 i cant imagine that they sold so many copies the first 2 months only in japan , because otherwise those two cant be compared equally

    I did state that in one of my later comments that One Piece isn’t that famous around the world, which is why when it does go over seas it most likely won’t make any more than it already has. It’s not because One Piece sucks(I LOVE One Piece and I’m an American), it’s because other TV productions sort of screwed it up for them. The only anime games that sold over 2 million copies were Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon and not even DBZ can do that anymore with as many fans as that show has.
