Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie at Saikyo V-Jump Festa

At the Makuhari Messe Convention Center just outside of Tokyo, Japan, the good people over at Shuiesha were running an event known as Saikyo V-Jump Festa on Saturday, July 21. The big news out of the event was a Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie trailer. It isn’t out online at this time, but the folks from Jump themselves have released two images. Of course, when the trailer is released, we’ll be sure to have it for you here on Saiyan Island!

As for the images, the first one below image has Goku next to the tagline of “The strongest make their move”, while the second has what appears to be the Dragon Ball Z logo with two floating Dragon Balls.


Also released is the first Shonen Jump scan for the movie. It isn’t anything new, pretty much the exact same as when we posted about it back on July 11. The only differences are the images are flipped and if you click on the thumbnail below, you’ll be greeted with a very high resolution scan, 2775 x 2019!

The Dragon Ball Z 2013 movie will be the 18th movie in the Dragon Ball anime series. It will take place between Dragon Ball manga chapters 517 and 518, in the 10 year timeskip after Goku defeats Buu, before before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. Akira Toriyama along with Toei Animation, Fox International Productions Japan, Shueisha, Fuji TV, Bandai, and Namco Bandai Games are all involved. The latest Dragon Ball Z movie is set to release in Japanese theaters March 30, 2013. There is no word on a North American or European release at this time.

    I really want this to be good. Just hope w/e fighting is in the movie is better than anything we’ve seen in the series. That’s the only thing that would warrant making something new so long after the anime ended.

    Eh, won’t bother getting excited about this, since i can’t stand the japanese voices for this series it will be years before they bother dubbing it and i’ll get to watch it.

    Right, you’ll be the first to watch it regardless of an english dub or not. No need to whine over it. You’ll watch, enjoy it, then cry somewhere in the forums about how much you hate the voices. I don’t like the japanese voices either, but that’s not gonna stop me from watching it

    Me either bro. A high pitched Goku, Gohan, and Goten all got on my last nerve and the screaming for all three of them made every last transformation and attack way less epic. 
    I’ll glance at it in Japanese only because it’s been so long since I’ve seen anything new and Dragonball Z related out, but if the story isn’t any good I’ll turn it off and wait for a dub if there is one.

    Sorry, I was under the impression that writing, direction, lighting, animation, choreography, character development, pacing, and so much more were also just as important. 

    Writing isn’t simple brah. Appreciate the other things that go into creating a work of fiction rather then fixating on a single opinionated flaw.

    But I guess if 1/20 or so is bad then the whole thing is bad by your logic. 

    Why do I argue with such closed minded people? Opinion is opinion, but opinion with no logic behind it is just as bad as stating something false.

    Well i guess they can save a lot of money now, they don’t have to hire anyone anymore, I’m sure you’re able to read lips.

    A story can be freaking amazing, the best ever written but if i have to listen to a person who sounds like nails on a chalkboard talk throughout the entire thing i think i’d rather pass on it.

    dude this has nothing to do with whats more important or not, the fact is that we grew up with dbz dubbed and at that time you couldn’t even watch it subbed even if you wanted to because it wasn’t online, the only way you could get it subbed was by vhs that was important from japan. the point is that some people, including myself are so used to the dubbed dbz we cant watch it subbed. the only way we would watch dbz subbed is if they didn’t dub it and their very small parts of dbz that were not dubbed. if i know its going to be dubbed then i wont watch it subbed, ill just wait for the dub (depending how long it takes them lol). so all that other crap you mentioned about animation and development is completely irrelevant to the point shogunreaper was trying to make, which is i dont like japanese voices and would rather wait to watch dbz dubbed than with subtitles.

    im exactly like you, with the exception of a few things that were never dubbed. so i was forced to watch those with subtitles, but other than that, i wouldn’t dare watch the japanese dbz, it would be a betrayal of my childhood.

    Voice Acting isn’t any less trivial than writing, direction, lighting, animation, choreography, character development, pacing, or anything else you probably were thinking of, it’s an important compnent of the entire method of storytelling that has a substantial effect on enjoyment. Lots of fans who watched the dub as a kid dislike Goku’s japanese VA, doesn’t necessarily mean they think the show itself sucks but it’s a legit reason for someone to decide not to watch it.

    Wrong bro. I will watch it even tho I don’t understand most of it. I have done it with all the other in the past. After knowing the show so well, you gain a strong sense of what is being said anyway! I like it just as much!
