The box office numbers are in! In it’s first weekend at Japanese movie theaters, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie grossed an estimated $3.8 million United States Dollars (USD). Compared to Naruto Shippuden: Movie 5: Blood Prison, which grossed an estimated $1.5 million USD in it’s first weekend, that’s over two times more!

Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie, the 6th movie in the Shippuden series, has actually done better than it’s last 4 predecessors. In it’s first weekend, Naruto Shippuden Movie 2: Bonds grossed $1.9 million USD, Naruto Shippuden Movie 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire grossed $2.0 million USD and Naruto Shippuden: Movie 4: The Lost Tower grossed $1.9 million USD.

To put it in a different perspective, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie was the third most grossing film in Japan and tenth overall in the world during the weekend of July 28th and 29th. Keep in mind, Road to Ninja was not a worldwide release so hitting the worldwide top 10, in Saiyan Island’s opinion, is a great accomplishment!

good to hear onlt if aired in U.S I remember there was ableach movie that aired but only for 2 days

  • narutobleachop

3.8 million is terrible. didnt they spend like $10 million to make just the special DVD!?!

  • Shogunreaper

I wonder why it takes so long for movies to be released on dvd in japan when they don’t even make that much in the theaters.

  • *Super~Sayian*

maybe now they’ll lower the boxsets prices with increased quality & episodes like pts was.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001285930400 Nigel Davis

If this movie did this well, it should be in American theaters.

  • narutobleachop

yes, i agree! even if it did bad, which i think it did, it still should be in American theaters cause Naruto is way more popular in the world than it is in Japan!

  • RedDragon10

The number is good but not outstanding especially for an anime film in Japan.

  • *Super~Sayian*

I see you don’t know much about distributors, basically the “developers” pay 1/10 amount which is already less, then the investors such as tv tokyo pays for the dvd, showcasing, theaters, budget of the movie cost etc. so actually they’ll be getting 10x the amount.

  • RedDragon10

Did you just say that naruto is more popular in a place not named Japan?

  • *Super~Sayian*

I just hope naruto will makes more profit than that stupid step up revolution garbage.

  • http://www.facebook.com/louis.lopez.777 Louis Lopez

He did, and it is true a lot more people in america love naruto that those in Japan. I am proud such animated film made it to top three in Japan rankings I feel if released in America or even Across the world with the proper subtitles It would definitely do a lot much better

  • RedDragon10

@facebook-100000518441729:disqus  Sure there are fans in NA and all over the world but its ridiculous to compare that number to those in japan.  There are parts of cities completely dedicated to this franchise.  Theres no way the fans here love it more than the ones in Japan.

In terms of revenue, I’m sure it’ll do better do to inflation and costs but comparing the impact that Naruto has on Japan and NA isn’t even worth the time.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U7MU5OUS7FIH575VT4PNZNIDXU jermar

hey did you watch that movie yet, i was thinking about watching but decided to watch spiderman instead, im still considering though if its a good movie

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U7MU5OUS7FIH575VT4PNZNIDXU jermar

while it is true that naruto is very popular in america, they wouldn’t dare waste their time putting it in theaters and reason being is because anime makes up 1% of all american entertainment. i imagine you would be able to calculate the profit loss in this investment.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U7MU5OUS7FIH575VT4PNZNIDXU jermar

it was just the weekend, not the whole week. be patient, it will increase

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZYDZYAJWCDNGKPGHBIFAE2N53Y Kayori

Why didnt they just put this movie all around the world at the same time:(

  • supersaiyanbardock

    DAMN XD

  • supersaiyanbardock

lol Naruto & Pokemon got higher than The Amazing Spider – Man O_O

  • http://www.mangaspoiler.com/ Thugnificent

Pretty low compared to Strong World which made  $11.7 million in it’s first weekend.

  • http://www.mangaspoiler.com/ Thugnificent

    In Japan .

  • *Super~Sayian*

Didn’t see neither, blew all my money for the DKR, so without trying to be bias I’ll say see spider-man first instead of step up since I doubt you live in japan for naruto.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Marcel-Alday/1210824161 Marcel Alday

i’m guess cuz some viewers only watch the english dub; and since concepts that are in the movie (like sage mode) haven’t happened yet in the english dub, they probably wanna hold out until it happens. either that or (probably) japan is just trolling us D:< T_T

  • Youmoronlearnfacts

You wrote the magic words week not two days(weekend) one piece sold 5.7million on it weekend the the revenir increpase gospel

  • narutopiece1

i am happy for naruto :D and i can’t wait to watch this movie :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hisoga-Rei/1029890727 Hisoga Rei

One Piece Film Strong World opened on 188
screens throughout Japan. 103 of those screens had sold-out showings
throughout the weekend. The film’s per-screen average was 5.52 million
yen (US$62,200) — the record for a nationwide release in Japan.

On the first day, the film made 553 million yen (US$6.24 million), and
it made 485 million yen (US$5.47 million) on the second day. In all, the
    film was seen 820,000 times.

  • Shogunreaper

Naruto is a lot bigger in the u.s and other countries than in Japan.

Doesn’t matter if there are stores and merchandise places in japan, the fanbase outside of japan vastly outnumbers the one in.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001562951479 Serene Dennaoui

    i agree 100% with ya :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

Of course, Japan loves those silly pirates.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

If that were the case, then they wouldn’t release Storm 3 worldwide.

The reason is, compared to video games, movies are much easier to pirate. Let’s face it, a Naruto film would do atrocious at the box office, and if it were released straight to DVD (or even in theaters) then we’d all be able to watch it online within a day or two.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hisoga-Rei/1029890727 Hisoga Rei

nope.. not really.. manga industy in U.S is not as big as Europe and Europe was nothing compare to Japan..

for example, 3-5 years ago when Naruto at it peak in U.S, it only sold up to 1.5 million copies for 8 new volumes plus older volumes a years.. but in Japan, regardless whether Naruto at it peak or now, it sold more than 6 million with only 4 new volumes plus old volumes in same amount of time.. and now, Naruto sell was nothing compare to when at it peaks in U.S..

    @Thesageforlife K: .. lol.. /facepalm

  • http://www.mangaspoiler.com/ Thugnificent

pokemon movie 15? wow its getting milked like hell cause even the anime hasn’t ended =O

  • Shogunreaper

I’m not talking about the manga sales i’m talking about the fanbase.

  • supersaiyanbardock

    I know lol.

  • BiG_fAt_nOOb_mONsTAH305

Movie 3 of shippuden isn’t even dubbed yet. May have to wait longer

  • Damian Pawłowski

no ignorance, just as are those who know what is going to go

  • RedDragon10

No it is not.  Naruto is pretty much worshipped in the entirety of Japan.  It has a strong number of fans in America but compared to the love its shown in Japan, its not even a comparison.

I am not talking about the number of fans naruto has in the world or in Japan; I’m merely talking about the ratio of people who like naruto in Japan and in the rest of the world.

  • http://twitter.com/_Darkblondie_ Darkblondie

it is as high as The Dark Knight Rises in Japan lol. But not a surprise for Naruto. Also they really promoted this movie well. Kishimoto should have done a great job on this movie

  • unleashrage

    why not? :)

  • sonic4ever567

And it’s only been five day’s since the release of road to ninja in japan, add two more day’s (which will be a week) and we’ll see how much road to ninja has then!! ;)

  • http://twitter.com/RaniaDivina Rania-Divina

how long will wait we to see the movie???

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

At least 9 months until it is released on DVD for it to be subbed.

  • http://twitter.com/zotteAnniexD Annelies V.

why couldn’t they release it in europe too :(

  • Shogunreaper

No Naruto is bigger throughout the world than it is in japan.

I think you’re confusing naruto with one piece.

  • yorudox

lol you got to be the guy who starts that huh? lol

welllllll anyways kishi must have done a good job

    we love you kishi!

  • http://twitter.com/RaniaDivina Rania-Divina

    and online not subbed??

  • shadowrocks

I have got to see this movie!!!
Thank you kishi for making naruto!!!

    KISHI FTW!!!

  • bobill bobill

    I agree over 9000%

  • narutopiece1

    Same here XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • ResidentMetroid

Imagine the next Naruto Movie written by Christopher Nolan? I would cry at how epic the trailer would be. *Inception music*

    Lol.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nahnRPU3OwM&feature=related Kira

Well one piece will always be the anime king

  • RedDragon10

No I am not.  Naruto is biggest in Japan, not to say that there aren’t fans of the series all over the world.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sintija.vetere Sintija Vetere

I have to see this movie no mater what and WHY isnt it in europe TT^TT

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

Yes, yes it is. But no sense in complaining about something out of your control.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

Piracy and lack of box office sales. If they’re going to lose money, they’d rather it be 9 months down the road and not spend the money it would take to domesticate it.

  • Scott Baker

    fail*

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

Where it would do poorly and be pirated day 1.

    Think like a business.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alex.marrero.315 Alex Marrero

    SMH

  • ResidentMetroid

Wow really no sense of humor? I’m just saying these last two Naruto movies were terrible…

  • Shogunreaper

Na, the fanbase is bigger in the rest of the world than in japan for naruto.

  • http://www.mangaspoiler.com/ Thugnificent

Nah, i’m one of those who likes comparing stuff…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7727AOX2QSTFCT3FTHZ3YPRJFE Thesageforlife K

i bet it will come out in a couple months

  • RedDragon10

In terms of fan count, possibly.  Remember Japan is a small archipelago while the US has 300 million people residing in it.  But in terms of the ratio of japanese fans to American fans, its not even close.

  • Shogunreaper

You’re right, are more american fans of naruto than japanese ones.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/ENRWH6PGHSJ274LYJOEMUZXHDM LiL JJ

That is a great feat, because i’m not that surprised about it being in the top 3 in Japan but to be in the top 10 Worldwide is definitely something. All it does is just adds on to my anxiousness to see the the movie. Too bad we gotta wait till nxt year.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hisoga-Rei/1029890727 Hisoga Rei

no.. manga sales, anime sales, fanbase, anything related to manga and anime, nobody, no country can even compare to japan.. do some research and you will see what i am talking about.. the only thing others better than japan when it come to these things is piracy.. i mean scans and fansubs..

go find europe, american, china and south east asia manga, anime sales data and anything related to them like licensing .. you will see how small the world when we compare it to Japan.. actually when it come to manga/anime, Japan is the world.. i am sorry americans.. you lose this time..

  • Shogunreaper

Not talking about all anime and manga.

Talking about just naruto, just because its created in japan doesn’t mean its bigger there.

There are more fans of naruto outside of japan than there are in.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/MHT6XZE3PZMWUW7VYBU4WKXGAU Татьяна

And when it in Russia will leave?

  • demane rankine

Naruto is terrible how can you put an new episode every week that is so stupid at least 2
