Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie Receiving Government Funding

While there has been no official announcement, more evidence has come to light to support the theory of an international Dragon Ball Z 2013 movie release!

In order to promote and support the Japanese movie industry’s international endeavors, the non-profit organization UNIJAPAN launched an initiative called the “Co-production Certification Program” last year. This program, in which Japanese production houses team up with international partners, is supported by the Japanese government’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and affiliated agencies.

This year, four projects were chosen to receive funding under the initiative. One of those projects, the only animated film chosen, was the Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie! From the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Toei Animation, the Japanese animation house for Dragon Ball Z, received 50 million yen! That’s well over $600,000 USD! The United States has been chosen as the partner country for the Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie project, which makes sense since movie studio FOX is playing a role in the movie’s production.

Last month, Toei Animation launched an English website for the Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie.

The Dragon Ball Z 2013 movie will be the 18th movie in the Dragon Ball anime series. It will take place between Dragon Ball manga chapters 517 and 518, in the 10 year timeskip after Goku defeats Buu, before before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. Akira Toriyama along with Toei Animation, Fox International Productions Japan, Shueisha, Fuji TV, Bandai, and Namco Bandai Games are all involved. The latest Dragon Ball Z movie is set to release in Japanese theaters March 30, 2013. There is no word on a North American or European release date at this time.

As much as i love dbz a 1:30/2 hour movie is not worth it, how about putting that money towards starting a new saga.

Why so negative? at least we get something

  • Shogunreaper

Not being negative, I just don’t want to be content with the bare minimum.

If they are going to milk fans they might as well go the extra mile.

DBZ ended so it’s staying there. If they were to announce a new saga then i’ll definitely watch it, with pleasure! but i highly doubt there will be one so…

I was thinking the same, they should just make a new series. I personally think, anime should in the long run go the comic route, where new series keep starting, so you don’t just have the original.

I would rather them put forth as much effort possible into one great movie than making another series that WONT be able to live up to its predecessor.

It might lead to a new series, fact is DBZ has been off TV for quite a while, it’s absense has been filled by games (that have got better as the years passed) Also it is part of a promtion effort to attract business and new investment to their industries (after the Tsunami) It’s great on DBZ part, it shows their are projects now and later for it’s franchise. Ideally it could open up a new series, at the end were getting a movie and the profit for it should kickstart whole new ideas for the series.

dragon ball movies never lead to any series. they’re irrelevant to the series anime or manga. every single db/dbz/dbgt movie has been made independent from the actual series, and had tons of plot holes due to that reason. we need to remember the major mistake of every fan, who compare movies to anime, because they’re parallel universes, as well as stated by Akira long time ago, who tried to explain to the fans why comparison of anime series and movies is such a  bad and useless idea.

My wish from the dragon balls has finally been granted.

but akira toriyama said this is the only movie that is actually a part of the show and not just a spin off

  • ray lewis

hope this is a lot better than yo son goku returns and that bardock episode they both sucked to me.

  • johntoreno 01

MAN WHY can’t they just make this take place AFTER The end where he just “Leaves” with uub ??

DARN they’re discreetly keeping GT in mind >_< !
GT SUCKS AND This is a great chance to make it non-canon by just making THE REAL ENDING !!

  • realdbzfanatic

    blew your mind

  • realdbzfanatic

But you have to remember that movie  characters were featured in dbgt and were mentioned in series but like you sad it can be a confusing concept

  • realdbzfanatic

gt didnt suck i admit it had its moments but come on we learned so much any real fan would open his/her mind and see that it was FUCKING AWESOME but would have been better if goten turned oout more like goku and was shown more

I hope this movie gives way to another game such as RAGING BLAST 3!
    *wishing for the most*

buying the dvd in blue ray n watch it on my 56″ 3d t.v i cant wait

  • http://www.facebook.com/brandon.ramsey.1297 Brandon Ramsey

Okay…Here’s to all who say gt didn’t suck. It did. Gt couldn’t have happened. If they black star balls where created by Kami and piccolo they would have disappeared when they reunited in the cell saga, because the old dragon balls disappeared. Dende made the new ones. So the black star dragon balls cannot exist. If dende made them then they should have had him die in gt not piccolo.

  • william brodie

while that is true this one is actually cannon because it takes place during the timeskip of kid buus death and the world tornament

  • william brodie

its all up to toriyama if he wanted to do the movie or not its not like hes been so fine tuned with dragon ball since it ended and besides a new show would spin off from a manga it wouldnt just happen to happen that how we got GT

  • http://www.facebook.com/ed.bacon.3 Ed Bacon

Actually, if you read the article The Piccolo/Kami fusion created the Black star balls. when he was separated the balls turned to stone since the creator of the balls was “dead”. When they refused during the cell saga they became active again
