Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods seems is in it’s final stages before being complete as the legendary creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama saw the movie today. That’s according to the Deputy Director of Shonen Manga Group, Sasaki Hisashi who tweeted “Toriyama-sensei was at our editorial room. He is in Tokyo for the first screening of the new theatrical movie DRAGONBALL.”

Four new screenshots from Battle of Gods have been revealed. They are of Vegeta, the Prophecy Fish, and Bils. These screenshots are in addition to the 4 that were released the other day. In case you are curious, the Prophecy Fish tells Bils about Goku 39 years ago. That 39 years is relative to the movie’s time period.

Lastly, CinemaToday has reported Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is going to IMAX theaters in Japan! This will be the first Japanese movie to ever get the high-resolution theatrical format. The film is planned to screened at all 16 IMAX theaters in Japan beginning March 30, 2013. Greg Foster, Chairman & President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment stated: “We are proud to partner with Mr. Akira Toriyama, a pioneer among mangaka, in bringing the first ever Japanese film to IMAX Digital Theater screens. With its fast-paced action scenes and eye-popping visuals, we are confident that Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be perfect for the IMAX experience.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is the 18th movie in the Dragon Ball anime series. It will take place between Dragon Ball manga chapters 517 and 518, in the 10 year timeskip after Goku defeats Buu, but before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. Akira Toriyama along with Toei Animation, Fox International Productions Japan, Shueisha, Fuji TV, Bandai, and Namco Bandai Games are all involved. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is set to release in Japanese theaters March 30, 2013. There is no word on a North American or European release date at this time for either movie.

lol the creator sees it first XD

  • scabab

I can see this movie making alot of money in Japan. One Piece Film Z made over $70 million in Japan and I think this film could prove to be just as successful.

  • Bardock – SSJ2

1 more month for this movie and Storm 3 f!@# YEAH XD
And this month for Dragon Ball Heroes 3DS, DOUBLE THE F!@# YEAH XD

If even Toriyama saw it, then we ALL must see it!

I all honesty, at this point in time One Piece has become much more popular in Japan than Dragonball Z, and indeed could really be said to be more popular than Dragonball ever was. Dragonball Kai being cancelled is a good example of this. Dragonball is still a really big deal, of course, but I really don’t see this movie doing better than Film Z.

Guess Vegeta decided to go back to some old swag.

  • scabab

It definitley isn’t bigger than it ever was, One Piece episodes get rating of like 10-11 which is very good but Dragon Ball used to get rating of around 30.
DB Kai’s rating werent far behind that of One Piece and everyone has already seen it. They do these crossover games and Goku is always in the middle. The DBZ games always vastly outsold the OP games etc.

one piece got High Resolution and One Piece is just as good as dbz but you know

DBZ is just Classic Epic top down

  • tellvontae

I can already predict Vegeta making an epic entrance like every other movie just to lose in 5 secs AGAIN, just from that picture

  • Broly

In this movie would Vegeta be ss3 or these are just rumors ?

  • MajinHero

really? are you kidding me dragonballz will do alot more then one piece film z dude

  • fevredream

And what exactly do you base that assumption on? We’re talking about Japan here, where One Piece is easily the single most popular franchise that exists at this point in time.

it might happen I find it very unlikely

Now we gotta love Fox :P

  • Shaps

We don’t know for sure but most probably there will be no need for him to go SS3 because firstly, SS3 is no match for Bils anyway and secondly, Goku will transform into the “Super-Saiyan-God”-Form. So why SS3 Vegeta? To let him look weak compared with Goku again? I don’t think so but time will tell! ;)
