Shueisha, the company behind Shonen Jump, has announced a one hour Dragon Ball Z x One Piece x Toriko crossover anime special will air in Japan on Sunday, April 7 at 9:00 AM! The special is titled “The “Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Chō Collaboration Special!!” and will air in two parts – Part 1: Run, Strongest Army! Toriko, Luffy, Goku! and Part 2: History’s Strongest Collaboration vs. Glutton of the Sea.
Toriko producer Arisu Takagi teased various possibilities in the up-coming special, such as a battle between Vegeta, Zoro, and Zebra or a cooking match between Sanji and Komatsu. He continues to tease by saying what if Chopper saw Goten and Trunks’ fusion. Takagi adds that Hercule will also be included in the special, as well as gag scenes, and a battle scene where Toriko, Luffy, and Goku all team up together. The goal is to “cram it all in.”
One Piece and Toriko have been featured in two crossover anime specials in Japan, one in April 2011 and the other in April 2012. Dragon Ball and One Piece have received a special one-shot collaboration manga written and drawn by both Akira Toriyama and Eiichiro Oda. It was released back in a 2007 issue of Shonen Jump and called Cross Epoch. Viz Media had also published the special chapter in North America in the Aprill 2011 issue of the now discontinued print edition of the English Shonen Jump.
Namco Bandai Games has in works a crossover game for the PS3 and PS Vita tentatively titled Project Versus J with Goku, Luffy, and Toriko as officially confirmed characters.
