Dragon Ball Z x One Piece x Toriko Anime Special

Shueisha, the company behind Shonen Jump, has announced a one hour Dragon Ball Z x One Piece x Toriko crossover anime special will air in Japan on Sunday, April 7 at 9:00 AM! The special is titled “The “Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Chō Collaboration Special!!” and will air in two parts – Part 1: Run, Strongest Army! Toriko, Luffy, Goku! and Part 2: History’s Strongest Collaboration vs. Glutton of the Sea.

Toriko producer Arisu Takagi teased various possibilities in the up-coming special, such as a battle between Vegeta, Zoro, and Zebra or a cooking match between Sanji and Komatsu. He continues to tease by saying what if Chopper saw Goten and Trunks’ fusion. Takagi adds that Hercule will also be included in the special, as well as gag scenes, and a battle scene where Toriko, Luffy, and Goku all team up together. The goal is to “cram it all in.”

One Piece and Toriko have been featured in two crossover anime specials in Japan, one in April 2011 and the other in April 2012. Dragon Ball and One Piece have received a special one-shot collaboration manga written and drawn by both Akira Toriyama and Eiichiro Oda. It was released back in a 2007 issue of Shonen Jump and called Cross Epoch. Viz Media had also published the special chapter in North America in the Aprill 2011 issue of the now discontinued print edition of the English Shonen Jump.

Namco Bandai Games has in works a crossover game for the PS3 and PS Vita tentatively titled Project Versus J with Goku, Luffy, and Toriko as officially confirmed characters.

    First thing I expected when clicking this article is for the comments to be filled with ‘wheres Naruto?’ and ‘Toriko is awful’. I have not been disappointed in that respect. Most people who claim Toriko is awful have never watched or read it. Seriously the people who visit here are too Naruto centric. It’s like they are oblivious to other shonen and take it as an insult when their favourite is not mentioned.

    I am looking forward to this. I adore One Piece and Toriko and less so Dragon Ball.

    Well, this IS a website with Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto information. When Toriko joins the group, all the ignorant fans become even more ignorant. And me personally, I don’t like how Toei is putting Toriko up there with Dragon Ball and One Piece, they’re really trying to push Toriko to make it the next big thing. Naruto x Bleach x Yu Yu Hakusho is the only possibility with Naruto for a major hit Shonen crossover. It seems people can’t comprehend that just yet. I have a question, will these two episodes be on the Toriko timeslot? Or One Piece?

    Nothing wrong with pushing Toriko to be the next big thing, it’s already more popular than Bleach and with Naruto likely to be ending this year you might as well push it now.

    As for your question it will be Torikos time slot as SI did not mention in the article that this is to celebrate Toriko entering its third year of broadcasting.

    Totally agree with you. I’ve started recently watching and reading Toriko, and so far I think its really original and good. The thing is that most of these people ONLY watch naruto. They’re pretty ignorant and only care about that sereis. Some people here even despise dbz even thought they’re on a site called “saiyanisland.”

    If we’re talking about not equal, then pretty much any character from dbz would win a fight against any character from any other show. I’m sure they’ll pay respect to not make goku too overpowered to at least have the other characters shine as well. I remember in that one OPXToriko crossover, luffy was fighting Toriko to a stalemate.

    Also, stop whining about Toriko. It’s considered part of the current big 3 battle shounen these days. This site is called freaking “saiyan”island, it’s technically just as irrelevant as Naruto and OP is.

    It’s stupid as hell. It would be ok and kind of funny too if it were just gag scenes, but as as for battles, well… I started my comment with my opinion on that.
    Goku or vegeta could obliterate all the characters from Toriko and One Piece COMBINED, without much effort. DB characters are just too overpowered.

    I have no idea what toriko is? seriously, i have never read toriko in my life nor seen an episode of it. i think there was a crossover between one piece and toriko but i never bothered to watch it, but i am indeed looking forward to seeing how this would play out. BTW does anyone remember the one piece x DBZ cross over back in 2007-08?

    The Toriko manga is sooo much better than the anime but that’s because the anime censors so much violence. I wish they would stop the censorship I mean DBZ and one piece show blood so why not Toriko? But then again if Toriko was uncensored it would probably be considered more gory than DBZ or One piece…but that would make it so much better!

    The reason why Toriko is being pushed is because it’s already so popular in japan. The manga is very unique in it’s concept and the battles are nuts. The artwork is grea to but I agree that the anime is lacking because of the censorship. If the toriko anime wasn’t censored it would be far more gory than one piece, DBZ, and maybe even Naruto.

    DBZ can kill most anything so they will probably be nerfed a bit for the cross over. But the one thing that really makes DBZ overpowered is the AoE that their attacks have. If we’re compairing physical strength Toriko destroyed a mountain with a punch.

You guys are NO BETTER than those you call idiotic naruto fans. I am a naruto fan (obviously) but i also love these series, i watch DBZ like 3-5 times, one piece (i am still watch), and Toriko, i haven’t caught up yet ( i am on episode 61). I am DEFINITELY looking forward to this CROSSOVER.

    You have to read the past comments. Toei Animation animates Toriko, DBZ, and One Piece so that’s why they have a cross over. Studio Pierrot animates Naruto and they use to animate Bleach and Yuyu Hakusho.

    Destroying mountains with a single attack is in for every shounen anime/manga hero’s contract :D If you can’t do that much, you fail as a protagonist :D

    Now jokes aside, i get the point, but the other thing is with DBZ characters is they have some kind of super defense and they can withstand almost anything (Freeza for example survived the destruction of a planet and he was on the surface…). So the problem is more like: They are basically unscratchable by “lower life forms” like any of the other shounen characters.
    So yeah, they must be nerfed to be fair.

    My only concern is will Toei be able to handle this? They’ve kind of suffered heavily on the animation based on Fishman Island due to all the specials and One Piece Film: Z; doing all this is not making the animators recover faster from all that.

    OMG they made DBZ crossover with OP which I hate so MUCH and Toriko which most of ppl don’t give a sh** about. And the worst thing about that is watching Goku fighting with this Luffy toe to toe like they were equal to eachother in terms of strenght. It just makes me sick.They could at least add characters who would give DBZ Universe characters at least some minimal challange like Saint Seiya or something.

    (after reading a few comments) you cant really compare dbz characters to OP characters. they are clearly monsters with overwhelming power. not even exaggerating. they can blow up the moon as easily as one can flip a coin. its common sense that characters like the strawhats would lose against them

    So, no anime characters? Besides that, I see a whole number of characters that I would take one of the “higher powered” characters over. Flash? Thor? Spawn? Zoom? Martian manhunter (fire? ). Green lantern? Remember you said that you would list a character that could destroy the entire DBZ universe, by themselves. I’m sorry but most of these characters wouldn’t beat a single character of DBZ. A lot of those characters are immortal and can’t die. But can they win every battle? Doubt it. Now, before this erupts into a fanboy war, I respect your opinion. But I don’t buy it.

    Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo are supposedly God level existences capable of destroying planets with a thought and completely immortal or something like that so I’ve heard. The kiddy shows too tend to have insanely beast broken God level characters that can do any and everything.

    This is gonna be good. Drabonball x One Piece, I’ve seen two or 3 episodes of Toriko and really couldn’t get into it but I might continue to watch. Either way this crossover is gonna be epic.

    goku’s instant transmission carries him at the speed of light. but dude please this whole war is stupid each character comes from different universes in TV shows they have different strength in different shows sailor moons power being destroying universes at the top and in dbz its power level although the last power level was in freeza saga supposedly each transformation makes them 10 x stronger bils being at the top in dbz being able to destroy anything he wants including universes/multiverses. but they’re both epic. Anyway all I’m saying is unless they become magically real during a crisis there’s no use in arguing who is the strongest tv character so please give respect and then take it. Friend?

    “goku’s instant transmission carries him at the speed of light” – samuel wheeldon. that’s all I have to say. there are other dbz characters just as fast and the upcoming movie characters might be faster. believe me I love superheros, but dbz characters would annihilate them. why should speed matter (even though dbz characters are pretty damn fast)? how is speed gonna help the superheros u named win? they’re just going to use it to run away when they see a dbz character like goku. last time I checked galactus and friends don’t have a lot of speed. lastly, I don’t think thugnificent from boondocks should know that many comic book characters.

    Dragon Ball and One Piece have the strongest relations. And there has already been a cross over with Torkio and One Piece so it’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out!

    I did say “going by manga sales in Japan” so going by that the point made is valid but going by the fact that not everyone buys manga they read is another thing to consider. But i do generally think Toriko is more popular than Bleach now, i mean so many people i know have stopped reading it since Aizens defeat mainly because how poorly written his defeat was and the fullbring crap that followed afterwards. I know a manga can’t stay consistently good as there will be times it may go below average but Bleach has been suffering from it for so long, many things in the war have been questionable. Oh Yeah do you read one piece? if so whats your thoughts on Punk Hazard? I thought it was good even with bits of it not to my taste like Vergo’s fight.

    It doesn’t mean Toriko has more sales than Bleach of all time. Bleach is on the top 10 list of most sold Jump, Toriko has a LONG way to go my friend. The only way I see it making top 10, is Dragon Ball and One Piece’s popularity boosting it like it is now. Going by your logic, Bakuman is more popular than Dragon Ball because it sold more last year.

    You know i was going by last years manga sales only. Its obvious Bleach has sold more manga copies than Toriko overall as Bleach started 10 years ago or so. Also Dragonball is a very old manga unlike Bakuman which i think ended last year from what i heard(not sure i don’t read it) so that’s probably why it sold more as its much younger.
