Goal for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is Over 3 Billion Yen

Posted on March 21, 2013

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is the first new DBZ movie in over 17 years. According to Japanese news site Bunka Tsushin, Toei, the parent company of the Japanese animation studio Toei Animation, has huge aspirations for the Z Warriors 2013 big screen debut – a goal of over 3 billion yen (around $31.5 Million USD) in sales at the Japanese box office!

With new fans as well as the old ones, youth and adult, Toei feels confident they can reach this goal. Companies such as Lawson, Aeon, Mini Stop, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Geo, Ace Cook, Kirin Beverage, and HMV are all supporting the movie through promotional tie-ins and products. In addition, theaters will be handing out limited edition game-cards and QR codes to attendees in order to further increase the desire to see the movie.

Bunka Tsushin also writes the movie was completed on February 18th and the mass media is currently enjoying preview screenings. The reception thus far has been positive thanks to the nostalgic feel and mix of CG and hand-drawn animation.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will launch in Japanese theaters on March 30 with a six week theatrical run planned. Toei Animation’s One Piece Film Z grossed 3.1 billion yen in 10 days, so six weeks to reach 3 billion yen for Dragon Ball Z in Japan? We think it’s very possible!
