Anime Expo 2014 took place during the July 4th weekend about two weeks ago in the beautiful city of Los Angeles, CA (USA). The event featured a slew of anime excitement, but none greater than those dealing with two of Saiyan Island’s favorite anime – Dragon Ball Z and One Piece!
For the Dragon Ball Z panel, FUNimation focused on the highly anticipated theatrical release of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in North America! There was a brief showing of the Dragon Ball: Xenoverse Trailer, but the main event was Battle of Gods. Starting at the 7:10 mark in the first video in this page, FUNimation’s Senior Manager of Social Strategy and Development, Justin Rojas, shares a sneak peek from the English dub of the movie, lasting over 7 minutes! We won’t spoil anything for you, but if you’re interested, certainly take a look!
At the 15:20 mark, Justin Cook (producer/Dende), Chris Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo), Sean Schemmel (Goku/King Kai), Kyle Hebert (narrator/Gohan) take the stage. A brief clip of FUNimation’s great founder and CEO Gen Fukunaga is shown (HD version is the second video on this page), and then the panel of our beloved voice actors begins at the 19:46 mark. At the 22:25 remark, Schemmel dishes out a “The Thirst is Real” and references Saiyan Island’s interview with him two days earlier. At the 23:06 mark, Schemmel discusses Goku vs Superman and at the 25:03 Sabat does a bit of singing in his Vegeta voice (in reference to a scene in the movie).
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods hits theaters throughout North America on August 5, 6, 7, & 9. Saiyan Island highly encourages purchasing tickets to hopefully increase the likelihood of the recently announced Dragon Ball Z 2015 Movie coming West. We’d honestly love a simultaneous theatrical release, and FUNimation would have to put in the work to do so, but it would have to start with our support as fans! We can do all of the online petitions we want, but at the end of the day it comes down to sales!
Just to avoid starting any rumors, the 2015 DBZ movie is only confirmed for Japan at this time! No word has been released if the movie will be released anywhere else. To see if this years movie (2013 for Japan), Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is coming to a theater near you, check out www.dragonballz.com/tickets/.
At the One Piece Panel, representatives from Shuiesha, Toei Animation, Viz Media/Shonen Jump, FUNimation, and Bandai Namco Games were on hand to discuss all things related to the pirate anime/manga! The panel begins with Hisashi Sasaki from Shuiesha discussing the brilliant work ethic of Eiichiro Oda (the creator of One Piece). At the 10:30 mark, Alexis Kirsch and Stephen Paul from Shonen Jump discuss the challenges of weekly manga for the American branch of the magazine. At the 20:45 mark, some major manga spoilers are discussed. Forward onto 29:04 and the English dub release of One Piece: Film Z is highlighted. The trailer for the movie is the last video on this page. Starting at 33:30, Koji Nakajima from Bandai Namco Games talks One Piece: Unlimited World Red, which has been released worldwide for the PS3, PSVita, WiiU, and 3DS.
