Shueisha Establishes Department Focused Exclusively on Dragon Ball

Created by Japanese mangaka, Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball made its debut on November 20, 1984 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Almost 32 years later, the franchise has never been more popular. With brand new video games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and a new series in Dragon ball Super, the phenomenon just keeps growing!

To optimize and continue expand this vast universe, Japanese publisher Shueisha announced it had created a new department called the “Dragon Ball Room” in June that focuses exclusively on Dragon Ball.

Akio Iyoku, the editor-in-chief of Shueisha’s V-Jump magazine – which currently plays host to the Dragon Ball Super manga – is heading the new department. The only ideas in the “Dragon Ball Room” are for Dragon Ball. Toriyama-sensei jokingly commented on the new department, saying “It’s really great that I don’t have to do anything now.”
