Posted on December 15, 2017

Dragon Ball mania is in full swing! Since 2013 with the release of Dragon Ball Movie 18: Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods, the series centering around Son Goku has only grown exponentially. 2015 brought the Dragon Ball Xenoverse video game, Movie 19: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, and the return of Dragon Ball to television in the form of Dragon Ball Super. Now, in the year 2018 comes the next giant announcement in Dtagon Ball – Movie 20!

The announcement was made at Jump Festa, an annual event held by Weekly Shonen Jump publisher Shueisha to celebrate and showcase various anime, manga, video games, toys, and more. No trailer was released, only an announcement was made the movie will be out in Japan in December of 2018. The story for the movie will revolve around the origin of the beloved Saiyan race with appearances by new Saiyan characters. Dragon Ball’s original creator, Akira Toriyama will be lending his talents with the movie’s script and character designs once again. Who will be the new enemy?
    DBZ movies now:
With which new and stupid transformation the writters will finish the movie?

  • KDG

With all of the new Saiyan craze with the introduction of the Universe 6 Saiyans, I guess it isn’t too surprising that a new movie is in development centering around the history of the Saiyan race. I can’t help but wonder if it will be an origin story around the Universe 7 Saiyans we have grown to love over the years, or around the Universe 6 Saiyan race we have yet to learn much of anything about.

After making Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F part of the canon story of Dragon Ball Super, I wonder if they will stay consistent with future movies by making them canonical to the story. Any thoughts?

  • narutobleachop

they’ll add this to Dragon Ball super like the last 2 movies, am sure cause they want to milk it

  • KDG

I don’t think this particular movie will be added since it’s an origin story that takes place in the past. There’s really nowhere to inject a story like that into the current timeline, except maybe as a reference to future events, much like the History of Trunks or Bardock: Father of Goku specials. But I’m curious as to whether or not there will be future movies, and whether or not they will be added to Dragon Ball Super like the previous two movies.

  • KDG

    More like:
DBZ Movies 20 years ago: Create random villain who is mostly a rip from an actual DBZ villain, throw him into random timeline that could not logically fit in with the anime’s timeline, causing obvious continuity errors, and let Goku cut loose and prove that he is the only fighter on his team with any real battle competency.

DBZ Movies now: Create new villain, or revive old villain, later add him/her to the anime so that there are no continuity errors, and let Goku and Vegeta cut loose, further proving that the full-blooded Saiyans are the only ones with any real battle competency.

  • Dbz Lover

    Sweet

  • dbz

dragon ball z r frieza > dragon ball z battle of gods

  • Wally West

This movie could end up being about the original SSJ and SSG

  • SuperUltramagnus

    A true prequel!?!?!

  • KGSG JLigerbomb

I hope new villian will make debut video game . ^^

  • KDG

That’s pretty much a given. The question is, what Dragon Ball game will even be in development around this time next year?

  • Silver King

The Bardock special isn’t canon so they won’t do anything with that.

  • KDG

Depends. It could very well be an origin story centered around Universe 6’s Saiyans. If it’s centered around Universe 7’s Saiyans, I hope this movie effectively retcons the Super Saiyan Bardock crap.

  • Silver King

Super Saiyan Bardock and Father of Goku are both non canon. Even the creator of the ssj Bardock episode said it was a “What if” story.

  • KDG

I think it is. And even if it weren’t, it still gives accurate reference to future canonical events, such as Goku’s fights with Vegeta, and eventual confrontation with Frieza on Planet Namek. Not to mention, Frieza’s flashback of his confrontation with Bardock is present in the anime. As this new movie will apparently be an origin story for the Saiyans, it has no real way of making it into the Dragon Ball Super anime, except possibly by referencing future events, or having flashback scenes in Super of this new movie.

  • Silver King

It’s not because it was retconned by Dragon ball Minus.

  • KDG

I wasn’t aware of that, thank you. I saw some of the Super Saiyan Bardock special in the past. It was definitely a cringe-worthy spectacle to me. I’m sure it was excellent fan-service for the millions of Bardock fans out there, but I really don’t care for ass-pull transformations like that to force Bardock as the Super Saiyan of legend. I’m glad it isn’t canon.

  • Silver King

I can see this movie either being about Yamoshi or a Dragoon Ball Minus movie with a much more fleshed out story.

  • KDG

There’s a part of me that believes this is likely about Yamoshi since Toriyama just recently pulled that story out of nowhere, but I hope it’s not. I’m not particularly interested in the original Super Saiyan God. I’ve always wanted an actual origin story on the Saiyans that wasn’t necessarily centered around Bardock, nor Planet Vegeta’s destruction. Hopefully this will be something original and cool, and not just more Goku or Super Saiyan God fan service.

Sadly I’m not too optimistic about it. I don’t think Akira Toriyama takes himself seriously enough as a writer for this new movie to not be pure fan service.

  • Silver King

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from and think that sounds interesting. My reasoning for assuming it will be centered around Bardock is because I think Toei is aware that a movie without Goku and the others wouldn’t do so well especially considering that Goku is VERY popular in Japan (he even has his own holiday). So having it centered around Bardock who is a fan favorite as well would be better for the movie.

  • KDG

That’s what I’m worried about. I think it would be far more interesting if they made an origin story centered around certain events such as the loss of Planet Sadala and the resulting Saiyan-Tuffle War for Planet Plant/Vegeta, or how the Saiyans came to be subdued and enslaved by Frieza. The latter would definitely do well in and outside of Japan, and they can still introduce new characters while having brief appearances from old favorites like Bardock, King Vegeta, young Prince Vegeta, Frieza, etc. Maybe they can even throw Raditz in there so I can finally believe that he is really Goku’s brother. Lol

  • Silver King

Lol he’s in fact his brother due to being mentioned in Minus.

  • Silver King

They did mention that it was about the origin of saiyans “the most powerful warrior race in the universe”. Leading me to believe that it’s most likely the Yamoshi Super Saiyan God story Toriyama talked about in an interview. With a teaser like that they wouldn’t show saiyans being enslaved or planet being destroyed.

  • KDG

Is Dragon Ball Minus even canon, though? It has Goku being sent to Earth as a three year old child wearing Saiyan armor, but Goku was very clearly a naked infant when he was discovered by Grandpa Gohan.

  • KDG

Well, here’s to hoping you’re wrong. You’re probably not, but I definitely hope you are. Though I’m most likely going to watch it either way.

  • Silver King

Yes it is canon and created by Akira Toriyama himself. Goku’s appearance when he first landed on Earth has NEVER been shown in the manga (canon material). The anime can confuse a lot of things lol.

  • Doobieastray

remember beerus told frieza to destroy planet vegeta and king vegeta has a scene with beerus so the origin story could have beerus in it. with what we know now (xeno, gods of destructions, other universes, super dragonballs etc) the origin would be awesome if they included the super lore.

  • Silver King

I’m hoping I’m wrong as well. I just don’t feel an entire movie for him is necessary If it was canon filler inbetween the TOP and the next arc that would be much better.

  • KDG

I see. Thank you for the information. I think I’ll take some time later and read Dragon Ball Minus.

  • KDG

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind seeing some sort of short filler saga dedicated to the original Super Saiyan God. I’d hate to see a whole movie about him, though. Hell, I’d take an origin story about the Universe 6 Saiyans over that. It’d be a great setup for any future interactions Vegeta may have with them in Super seeing as he intends to visit, and Cabba wanted to introduce him to their king.

  • Scott Baker✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

only issue i have is.. dosent goikus power
make his want to fight uub redundent he far stronger then kid buu right now he cant get much enjoyment out of it

  • Christopher Cannon Jr.

If it’s centered around the the Saiyans, I want it to be dark and brutal like the Bardock and History Trunks special.

I hope Toriyama remembered the draft about the Saiyan origins he wrote for Toei during that one filler scene with King Kai telling Goku about them, but I bet he forgot.

  • Wally West

Father of Goku is canon to the Anime if not the manga.

  • Wally West

    Who’s brother ?

  • PurexedSolitude;

Xenoverse 3 if I had to guess.

  • Amal A

I want Dragon Ball Super Crossovers With anime series and no Timeskip This my wish.

  • Amal A

I love Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ not Dragon Ball Movie 20.

  • I think it’s cool they’re finally doing an origin story of the Saiyan race, and I’m glad that Akira Toriyama is involved.
I’m sure this will be a really well animated film and have a great story.
Hopefully they also include the first Super Saiyan ever, and I’m sure they’ll probably tie in Ultra Instinct to this story or hint at it, and maybe also hint at Super Saiyan 4. That would stir up a lot of controversy and a lot of discussion; something I’m sure they’d like to see with the Dragon Ball franchise to keep it relevant and popular again.

  • Fick

can someone finally inform whis and beerus since they cant since his god energy for some reason that buu is majin and the daikaioshin of universe 7 peas and carrots. maybe im way off on that he should still be strongest in the universe compared to beerus and ssjss

  • Silver King

    Raditz Is Goku’s brother

  • Silver King

The scene with King Kai talking to Goku is filler so it’s not canon. The Bardock special isn’t canon either.

  • Silver King

Ultra Instinct isn’t a saiyan exclusive transformation.

  • Silver King

It’s not canon at all because it was retconned by Minus. There’s only one canon dude.

  • I never said it was.

  • Silver King

I know, but I think they’re mainly focusing on saiyan powers in this movie and Ultra Instiinct isn’t a saiyan transformation.

  • BUGHUNTER6 .

It’s so far away damn it xD

  • BUGHUNTER6 .

I know the fanbase is really divided on SSJ4 but I really like it. I’d love to see it mentioned or something, but I doubt they will…

  • Silver King

I hope it’s reintroduced as long as it’s done right. I think it’ll look a lot better with the color pallet of Super.

  • BUGHUNTER6 .

I hope they won’t erase all mystery behind SSJ. I’d love to know more, sure, but not knowing is part of the fun.

  • Wally West

Tell that to DBS because there is no official canon in this franchise.

  • Silver King

Yes there is. What does DBS contradict?

  • Wally West

It doesn’t contradict anything. My point is that both DBS manga and Anime are completely different from each other.

  • Meliodas

That’s why in the manga he did transform in SSJ when fighting UuB in the tournament while in the anime, they chose to make him transform in SSJ. Toei are good to really fu**ed up a lot of thing

  • Even if not directly mentioned imagine if they hinted at it? That’d be pretty cool to get people talking.
Didn’t Toriyama draw his own version of SSJ4 a while ago?

  • Silver King

DBS is different. Toriyama writes the MAIN plot points and Toyataro and Toei fill in the blanks their own ways. It’s basically 2 different routes (it makes more series if you have seen the Fate series). Both are canon though. Toriyama is just getting to old to write an entire manga again.

  • Silver King

Granted Toei didn’t know what was gonna happen in the future of the series That’s why there are so many things in the anime that are contradicting

  • Wally West

He did drew it, but it wasn’t really his creation, so I doubt we will see it ever again.

  • Fair enough.
But, this is his series that he created so maybe he can come up with an ‘official’ Super Saiyan 4 and include it in Super?

  • Alex Lowery

he said dark and brutal not cannon

  • Wally West

    Yeah, He could do that

  • KDG

I highly doubt there will be a Xenoverse 3; several factors suggest that there won’t be. I’d love if Xenoverse 2 had a sequel, but it isn’t likely.

  • Megalan

    What factors would those be?

  • KDG

    1. I don’t know how many of you unlocked the platinum trophy in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, but the trophy is called “Bye Bye, Xenoverse”. While this doesn’t outright state that this would be the last game in the franchise, I don’t see any other reason to call the final trophy “Bye Bye, Xenoverse.”

    2. As opposed to getting any announcement or indication that there is a sequel in development, we’ve gotten nothing but DLC Packs. Now, initially it was stated that Xenoverse 2 would receive up to two years of support and content. So far, it seems as if this is the case, as it has been 14 months since Xenoverse was made available to us, and we just recently received one pack and will be receiving another in February of 2018, 16 months after the game’s initial release. To me, it seems as if everything that might have made it into a sequel has been given to us over time in the form of these continuous DLC Packs. We’re even getting an addition to the story and a new villain.

    3. While we have received no word, or even a hint that Bandai Namco will be producing another addition to the Xenoverse franchise, Bandai Namco is currently producing Dragon Ball FighterZ, developed by Arc System Works. If the past is any indication, Dimps will likely not be working on a new Dragon Ball project and Arc System Works will be taking over. And given the current hype of FighterZ, there will likely be a FighterZ 2, or some sort of sequel. It’s doubtful that Xenoverse will be continuing.

  • Hiroshi Matsumoto

I honestly think it’s gonna be about Yamoshi – it is an Origin story after all and it’s something that’ll not only be interesting for newer fans but will fulfill many long fans questions about who actually was the Legendary Super Saiyan. (Don’t state Broly because he wasn’t Cannon lol)

  • Hiroshi Matsumoto

Taking all of that in mind and I do respect and appreciate all the wording but with the amount of money they had earned from XV I’d be surprised if they didn’t do another sequel, just because FighterZ is getting a lot of hype and attraction it probably or shouldn’t deviate from the fanbase of XV. XV’s fanbase is thriving and strong so with all of that on the table, yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if they did make another one.

  • KDG

What is there to even love or not love about Movie 20? At this point we don’t know anything about it except that it will be an origin story centered around the Saiyans. We don’t know which universe’s Saiyans it will be centered around, nor what part of their past will even be explored. To say you don’t love Movie 20 is like saying you don’t love someone you never met, know nothing about, and won’t for another year. It’s pointless.

  • KDG

I’d be highly surprised. Besides all of what I mentioned, where would they even go with a sequel? Xenoverse 2’s story wasn’t much different from Xenoverse’s. If the original premise for the Xenoverse franchise was for us “time patrollers” to visit iconic battles and points in time that are being altered, and fight to fix those alterations in time, how much more could we possibly have to do to correct the timeline? Two games in, our custom characters have been doing the same exact thing. Most of the replay values lies in the Parallel Quests, and even that has been overdone 3 years in. It’s only a matter of time before the Xenoverse fan-base is no longer entertained by the prospect of character creation, no longer want to grind PQs, and don’t want to rehash a “new” version of the same story we’ve had to defend.

So yes, there is still a thriving fan-base. But for how much longer? And what could Dimps do to make a sequel seem fresh? It seems like they’re sticking with the more logical course of action: maintaining the two years of support with updates and DLC. Otherwise, I don’t see where they could possibly go at this point with a sequel, unless they scrap the premise of time patrollers fixing the already-existent timeline and go in a whole new direction with a fresh story that isn’t recycled from the first two games. And if they were to do that, would it even be considered a sequel anymore? Or simply a whole new idea with the recycled character customization? See what I mean?

  • KDG

They’re probably going to have to retcon the whole last episode of Dragon Ball Z and redo it in regards to the newer content in Dragon Ball Super. It ended on a stupid note anyway, with Goku leaving his family to train Uub, as if he couldn’t fly or teleport back home at will.

Besides, there are still things to do, such as developing Goten and Trunks. Five years have past since Majin Buu was killed by Goku, yet Goten and Trunks still physically look like they’re seven and eight years old, when technically they are now 12 and 13.

  • Silver King

I completely understand what you’re saying, but they have said that there will be a sequel to Xenoverse. I hope that it’s a completely new story because doing the same story gets bring. It’s even more boring when the PQ’s are almost exactly the same as the story mode.

  • Silver King

The Buu saga took place in age 774 and we are currently in age 780. So Goten should be 13 and Trunks should be 14 (the same age as Future Trunks was when Gohan died).

  • KDG

Either way, Goten and Trunks shouldn’t look like a couple of first grade children anymore, yet their appearance does not reflect the progression of six years’ time. If Trunks looked more like History of Trunks’ Future Trunks, awesome. But he looks like the same Trunks who beat up a bunch of kids in a tournament six years prior, as does Goten.

  • KDG

Did they? Do you perhaps have an article or something where Dimps and/or Bandai Namco (or at least a reputable and trustworthy source) stated this? I haven’t read or heard anything about a future Xenoverse 2 sequel other than from people here who assume it’s a given just because.

  • Silver King

I don’t have a link, sorry. But it was all over YouTube about a month ago. It was at a conference I believe and they were talking about FighterZ and had said that this doesn’t mean the end of Xenoverse and that they plan t make more.

  • PurexedSolitude;

It was already spoken of during XV 2 interview a year ago,

  • KDG

I see. It’s a rather vague statement, though. Saying that they planned to make more could have been an indication that they planned on continuing releasing content as they have been all this time. I’d prefer a sequel though, but preferably one where I’m not just injecting myself into the already-existing story chronology. Something with a more original story, and continued interaction with characters who actually remember my character. It’s a bit petty, but admittedly I found it increasingly annoying during the story when I would show up and no one knew who the hell I was. It’s silly that our time patrollers could go from fighting Vegeta on Earth, to everyone wondering who the hell I am on Namek as if I didn’t just save their lives a short amount of time prior.

  • KDG

I don’t remember that, but I suppose I’ll look it up.

  • s̶ᴡ̇ᴀ̦͑͂ɢ͠ᴀ̙ᴍ̧ᴏ̩̫͛ᴛ͓͔̫ᴏ͂

    1 year lol

  • s̶ᴡ̇ᴀ̦͑͂ɢ͠ᴀ̙ᴍ̧ᴏ̩̫͛ᴛ͓͔̫ᴏ͂

    yup it’s god’s technique

  • Megalan

All I can say to that is “true”.

  • Raftleon

welp.. we asked for a movie about s-cells and the first legendary super saiyan and now we getting a origin movie? .. nice.

  • Silver King

    It’s a transformation.

  • anonymous

I’ll have to disagree a bit with you about the old movies. Not all of the villains were rip offs, such as Garlic Jr, Wheelo, Broly, Bojack, Janemba, and Hirudegarn. I’ll agree with the continuity errors.
Also, in the movies most Z fighters were relevant except Vegeta so I don’t think all the movies had only Goku steal the show entirely.

  • KDG

Garlic Jr., Wheelo, and Hirudegarn were original. Broly was just another Saiyan villain, which had already been overdone by the time he came around. Only real difference was he was a Super Saiyan. Bojack was another Turles; a space pirate with a handful of henchmen. Only differences being that Bojack wasn’t a Saiyan, and that he wanted to conquer Earth instead of bleed it dry of its resources – though I suppose that goes against the statement of him being a rip of an existing DBZ villain. Janemba was a rip of Majin Buu in that he started out mostly fat, playful, and innocent, then became a smaller, pure evil menace who could only grunt just like Kid Buu.

And with the exception of The Dead Zone, Goku pretty much steals the show in every movie. While the other Z Fighters fought in each movie, they weren’t really what I would consider relevant. They were mostly fodder who needed to be saved by Goku, followed by Goku getting his ass kicked by the main villain until he miraculously turns the tables in true Goku fashion.

  • KDG

The legend Vegeta spoke of is of a Super Saiyan who existed 1000 years prior to his existence. That said, Vegeta would have no way of knowing or confirming where this last Super Saiyan came from, as stories have a tendency to be degraded and lose detail over time. Besides, Vegeta never stated that the last Super Saiyan was on Planet Vegeta. He did, however, say that, according to legend, the last Super Saiyan’s power was so immense it destroyed him, and the scene shows the planet he was on also blowing up. That said, it couldn’t possibly have been Planet Vegeta, as Planet Vegeta wasn’t destroyed until over 1000 years later, when Vegeta was a child.

Also, the Universe 6 Saiyans do not cut off their tails as babies. As Cabba explained it, the Saiyans of Universe 6 have evolved past those of Universe 7; they are no longer born with tails.

  • KDG

I don’t see how Ultra Instinct would tie in to an origin story on the Saiyans at all. It isn’t a Saiyan technique. And given the obvious surprise of all of the existing Gods, Angels, and Kais at seeing Goku achieve Ultra Instinct, something most Gods of Destruction even have trouble with obtaining, I’d say Goku is likely the only mortal to ever achieve this. The Angels have existed for millions of years, and most of the Kaioshins are at least in the 100,000s. I’m pretty sure they’d remember if another mortal achieved a power beyond that of a God of Destruction.

And I’m pretty sure I read somewhere in the past that Toriyama wants to stray away from Super Saiyan forms, which is why we almost never see anything beyond Super Saiyan other than Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball Super. It is EXTREMELY doubtful that Super Saiyan 4 will ever exist in the actual canon, be mentioned, nor will there probably ever be a Super Saiyan form beyond Super Saiyan Blue (which is really just Super Saiyan 1 with the godly ki of Super Saiyan God), hence why the most recent and most powerful form, Ultra Instinct, resembles the base form with silver eyes and slightly raised hair.

  • anonymous

Uh.. ok if you go that deep then I’ll agree with you. I was initially only thinking of character designs.
But about the irrelevance of other characters, Goku is the main character so he obviously gets the finishing move. But in most movies he needs the spirit bomb which in my opinion is not a miraculous turn of tables. In Lord Slug, piccolo gives him energy, in Return of Cooler he needed Vegeta’s help, fusion reborn fusion was needed etc. Also in the movies we at least see the Z fighters (except Vegeta who is KOed instantly) put a decent fight against henchmen rather than just standing and watching fights like in the anime.

  • KDG

Good point. I never understood why Vegeta constantly got crapped on in the movies, despite being the second strongest next to Goku. Much of that was illogical. In regards to the Spirit Bomb, in a sense it’s a miraculous turn of tables when you consider that Goku has only canonically successfully ended a fight with the Spirit Bomb once. Vegeta and Frieza both were barely effected by the Spirit Bomb and still had a good deal of fight left in them. When you take into account all of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, Kid Buu is Goku’s one and only success story with the Spirit Bomb since Jiren managed to throw it back at him. Lol

  • anonymous

There is nothing I can debate about the success of the spirit bomb, but all I would say is that the spirit bomb is a powerful weapon considering it could beat Kid Buu. I guess we can only conclude that the non-canon Goku is better at estimating how much energy he needs to gather in order to beat the opponent and therefore I don’t see anything miraculous about it.
Goku planning to use the Spirit Bomb against Jiren itself doesn’t make sense because according to the manga the Spirit Bomb shouldn’t affect those with righteous/good hearts. Granted we don’t know how pure hearted Jiren is, the fact that he is a pride trooper i.e. fighter for justice should have made Goku realize that spirit bomb shouldn’t be used on him. Also the Spirit Bomb against Jiren seemed like a pretty weak one since only 8 fighters (none transformed) gave energy.

  • Koibito888

On top of this, the scene of the planet being destroyed and all that was filler, the manga didn’t describe the previous SSJ destroying the planet he was on if I remember correctly.

  • Koibito888

    It’s a technique

  • Koibito888

SSJ Bardock isn’t even canon in the first place and never was so it doesnt even need to be retconned out. And even if it did it already was by Toriyama saying the last SSJ was Yamoshi. But I agree the more solid proof to give the stubborn fans who don’t get canon is always a good thing.

  • Koibito888

If Toriyama’s writing it, it is until he himself says otherwise.

  • Koibito888

Very likely a movie about Yamoshi, nice.

Even if not, the story of the SSJG is a bit intricate. Cuz like… It’s not exactly Yamoshi. He was never an SSJG in life because he just went SSJ before dying. Toriyama straight up said Yamoshi’s spirit went to find SIX other warriors to make SSJG, not 5 others and himself – this means a new unnamed character has to have been the 6th Saiyan to become the SSJG with Yamoshi’s spirit who wasn’t Yamoshi himself.

It’s not possible that Goku was the first SSJG either because Shenron’s legends described an SSJG that did in fact exist, the SSJG who fought evil Saiyans before his power disappeared, and the whole thing that established that Goku was supposed to lose the SSJG power after a short time.

So unless this comes out and mixes up/retcons things, Yamoshi was the first SSJ, his spirit made the first SSJG, but the first SSJG had to be some other unnamed character given Yamoshi’s spirit searched out six others to make the SSJG.

  • Fick

no its in dragon ball supers english dub episode you got me on cabba i havent seen that far and yeah what youre not understanding is king vegeta is the reason for planrt vegeta so im pretty sure prince vegeta would know the legend very well

  • Fick

its also in the battle of gods i just dont know if you would count that one. some people have very stri t canon laws x))

  • Fick

im really not reading your comment well. my bad ill do better in the future. he says the first ss not the last. idk if theyll edit theres always room if you didnt know. and i mean thanks on the cabba info i looked up the u6 saiyans and couldnt find info. so i assumed a kid of all things dedinetly doesnt understand their own biology

  • Silver King

They have been calling it a “form” so it’s a transformation. Even Toei themselves have said that it’s Goku’s new transformation.

  • Silver King

I doubt it was weak given that it could’ve killed Goku in SSB if he hadn’t used Ultra Instinct and absorbed it.

  • AsurasPath22

Welp, let’s hope it isn’t sh*t like DBS

  • anonymous

That’s true but I still don’t understand how the spirit bomb was able to get so much energy. The only strong sources of energy were Gohan and #17 (frieza wasn’t transformed so i don’t think he gave so much energy).

  • Koibito888

Hopefully it stays with Toriyama’s style or is at least ONLY as dark as Bardock. Like yeah it was dark for DBZ but we don’t need things getting straight up edgy like GT.

  • Koibito888

Not really. Actually the ending didn’t make sense until Super came out anyway. Like without Super, Base Goku should never in his life be able to fight Kid Buu level power. Goku’s base stopped getting stronger after Cell Saga, for him to suddenly be strong enough to fight Kid Buu level power in base made no sense at the time. The BoG plot finally explains it, not that it was planned that way, I just believe it was an inconsistency until Super/BoG solved it. So if anything the ending needs less changing now.

Plus in the end Goku even acknowledged that he would come back to see his family so it wasn’t even him acting like he couldn’t.

On Goten and Trunks, the only thing that needs to happen is for them to look like they did at the end of Z, at the end of Z. Honestly if they don’t show an ounce of physical growth until the end but at the end they still look like they did at the end of Z then there’s no problem. Goku looked the same age from the start of DB to the timeskip at the end where he shot up to adult Goku size at age 19 I believe.

The only issue I had with XV story was it was TOO focued on you. Like I don’t want my character being a mary sue who comes in and solves all the problems. I want my character to get his ass kicked by Frieza, to not be able to match up to Cell, to at best getting SSJG so he’s still rightly below Goku as a new main character SHOULD be. I wish there were more moments of playing the canon characters.

  • Koibito888

I don’t remember where but it was specifically where they asked if XV3 would come out next year like XV2 did only a year after 1 and they said no XV3 will be taking longer than a year showing that XV3 was already something they were planning for.

Kaioken gets called a form sometimes too when its not.

Moving without thinking isn’t a transformation. Goku’s ‘breaking passed his shell’ might be but Ultra Instinct is nothing more than moving without thinking.

A new Dragon Ball movie and a new Yu Yu Hakusho OVA in 2018!!! This is gonna be the best new year ever!!! CAN’T WAIT!!!

  • David Shock

    your stupid, DBS is amazing

  • Silver King

Toei has already called it “Goku’s new transformation”. When was Kaioken ever called a form in the series (not counting when it’s stacked on Blue)?

  • Koibito888

Uhhhh dude Goku doesn’t use Kaioken individually in Super, you can’t just go ‘when do they say that, except for all the times they do’ lol they call it a form and they’re wrong, same here. Plus, outside of universe advertisements don’t change in universe plot. Just because they hype it up as a transformation doesn’t mean that in universe it’s not the product of ‘moving without thinking’, it’s a technique.

    beerus technique too

  • Silver King

*Transformation. Atleast when Goku uses it.

  • Silver King

Toei call it a transformation and it’s called a transformation in the show.

  • Silver King

The form UI is more than just subconscious movement, it also gets a huge power boost. Kaioken is never called a form

  • Koibito888

Its not though. Goku’s huge power boost has explicitly been described as a different unrelated power by ‘breaking his shell’. Goku’s power boost has been entirely attributed to be caused by his Ki being pressured by the Spirit Bomb until his limits were basically broken passed. This has nothing to do with UI which has always been described as ‘thinking without moving’. Whis even explains UI the very first time as specifically a speed boost that is achieved by moving without thinking.

This is even shown when Goku fought Kefla as he activated his power boost separately and full on seconds and movements AFTER he activates UI to dodge her attacks. The power boost and UI come from two different sources and are being used in sync. UI as it’s been described is only and entirely ‘moving without thinking’ and a speed boost, Goku’s power boost is described as ‘breaking his shell’ which was caused by a different thing.

  • Koibito888

Breaking the shell might, and combining that with the UI technique might, but no ‘moving without thinking’ on its own is not a form and yes that is all that UI is.

    Nah it’s haki

  • Silver King

    Ahh I see thanks.
